This post is basically to say one thing: Stay Tuned! I have so much good news, Geek experiences, and new exciting projects in the queue, that I could blog every day for a month and I might cover it all. Hardware, software, multimedia, networking, education…even love. Seriously, it’s gonna be big…
Looks like twitter tools is fixed again, so you can pick out the posts from twitter if you like. Personally, I’d like you to subscribe. My blogging style is quite robust & heavy with imagery, formatting and even videos. Sometimes this doesn’t fit into the 140-character lifestyle. I’d rather you view TreoBenny 2009 when you’ve made the decision to set aside some time and consume some good content. See you soon!

I started as an online student with the International Academy of Design & Technology in Oct. of 2007 as an AS in Web Design candidate. I have worked for a school at Northwestern University for 10 years now, and my co-workers all had snide remarks when I chose IADT Online. “What do you know about this program? Have you compared it to others? Aren’t you worried about the stigma of online education?” My replies were always very simple. IADT Online offered a ‘Web Design’ degree, which was very important to me (versus visual communications or digital media or whatever…) I felt an online degree was my only chance at going to college.
I believe in using the Web to its fullest: for communication, productivity, and of course, education. Why attend a fairly new program in the already murky waters of online education? To make an impact. There is newness all around me. I’m a new artist to a new media, a new student in a new school. There are two major ways to deal with newness: resistance, and complacency. However, I believe that all the great people of history, (and many other great people that will one day become great people of history) dealt with newness as an opportunity.
So…my first tangible effort of making an impact at IADT Online is starting the Graduation Committee, GradComm. To this effort I will be traveling to Tampa, FL, the campus that houses the Academy Online staff. The nitty gritty of GradComm is for another forum. This post is mainly to announce my trip to Tampa and a general idea of why.
Now for the fun…if you are in the Tampa area and would like to meet myself and other design minded, social media driven, fun times loving, and all around TEH AWESOME people, join us at Splitsville Lanes in Channelside Plaza, Friday March 20, around 9pm.

I don’t consider myself someone who ‘travels.’ I may leave Chicago once a year on average. Well…the tentative plans I have now are for a fairly robust travel schedule, and the list continues to grow.
– Anika {@faboomama} is having a Halloween party at her house…in L.A. This is a tentative event for me, but it sure sounds like fun.
– Nov. 21 – 23 is East Coast Seesmic Meetup Raleigh, NC. I’m going to this if I have to walk! Now way am I passing up a chance to meet Taylor {@TaylorBarr} the host and coordinator of the meetup. It shouldn’t be too bad, last I looked the flights were pretty cheap.
– Jan. ’09 (approx.) This is the crown jewel of my upcoming travel calendar. I’m organizing a New Media Meetup in L.A. I’m calling it a bowling meetup. Why bowling? There are few activities that are as social as bowling, and I feel as though I’m bringing a bit of mid-west culture with me to the West coast.
Not in the chronological list are several New Media-themed events in Milwaukee that I might attend. Since MKE is so close it doesn’t take formal planning. As the mood may hit me I’ll just hop a train and swing on over.
Tracy {@tapps} is an avid member of the New Media community and is organizing several upcoming events such as Queercamp.org {@queercamp} and AngryCampTracy’sBasement. {#ACTB} I wouldn’t be surprised if she had a significant role in barcamp Milwaukee 3 {@barcampMKE} as well. Tracy is GOOD people…and an accomplished New Media artist. Check her out at tracyapps.org
Could TreoBenny be in your city soon? Damn right I could! The closer to Chicago you are, the easier it is for me to make the trip. But there are certain cities that I have a particular interest in visiting. Shoot me a note {@TreoBenny} if you want to have a fun, New Media Arts-driven meetup.
Also, be on the look out for the Chicago Twitter WinterGames.

I’ve got a short break from school right now, perfect timing to get some projects around the house done – to get some design projects done – to get some development projects done right here at TreoBenny.com
The last couple weeks I’ve been trying to settle in on an orchestra of mobile-minded social networking tools. I started out with Twitter, but then realized the good stuff Twitter was doing could be taken further. I started looking around at other tools like Brightkite and Dodgeball. Of course, in the end Twitter will no doubt engulf all of them, (or whenever they team up with Google.) I forsee myself being settled in on my tools of choice in a week or so, at which time I’ll begin really crankin’ on my next design project. School will be back soon after that, but with only one class to worry about, I should still have time for lots of ‘playin’.
All my play will need to end by mid-Aug. when I go back to work full time. It would be great if I could secure a full-time job in design by then, I’m keeping my fingers crossed. But, in the meantime, it’s late June and life is good! Be prepared for an overload of updates as I get ready to go to my first NASCAR race in a couple weeks.

It’s been a while since I wrote a post, which in itself kept me from writing a post. I worried about how much time it would take to fill in all the details since my last post. Well…I decided to just throw something up to get the ball rolling. I’ll fill in details over the past few months as I go. I’ve decided to make a change to the social…eh…infrastructure as it pertains to TreoBenny.com.
I’ll create a page specific to this blog, Twitter, and my other social networking endeavors. I used to hate that I didn’t have time to fill up my home page with lots of stuff, but now I kinda like the clean open look that minimal content gives. Check back soon for more updates!…no, for real this time

Click the image to go to the Looptopia site. I wanted to put up some kind of post tonight, but I’ll go into more detail tomorrow. I’ll definitely be there, I’m just not sure of the time yet, my son’s birthday is Friday as well.
I have a dozen or so pictures and a couple videos from last year. I haven’t completely decided if I’ll add them to a post here, or make a page on the main site. Either way, be looking out for it. Also, I strongly suggest subscribing to Twitter. Last year there was a “secret” roof-top party published via text updates. An event like Looptopia is made for Twitter.
